Urban planning. Works to improve C/ Radas and C/ Concòrdia in the district of Sants-Montjuïc.
The project to repave C/ Radas and C/ Concòrdia is under way and will help improve accessibility and give pedestrians priority, with wider pavements and no curbs. The participatory process allowing local residents in the Poble-sec neighbourhood to have their say was crucial in defining the transformation.
Curbless paving will be the main improvement in C/ Concòrdia, along the section between C/ Mare de Déu del Remei and C/ Elkano. It will mean a reduction in motorised traffic, as well as regaining a classic ascent route for pedestrians making their way up Montjuïc mountain.
As for C/ Radas, work will be carried out along the section between Pg. Exposició and C/ Elkano, which will be segregated and given wider pavements to improve access. Trees will also be planted there. The road surface will consist of one lane for circulation and another for linear parking.
New furniture, lighting and vegetation
These improvements to public space also mean renewing urban furniture, with new benches, litter bins, parking for bicycles, street lights and springs. The current overhead cabling will be shifted underground and street lighting will use LEDs. Both streets will also get small bearing trees. Judas trees and hawthorn will be planted in C/ Concòrdia, while C/ Radas will get Callery pear trees. The drainage and sewer system will also be renewed during the work.
The improvements will cover an area of over 5,000 square metres, have a budget of 1.5 million euros and are expected to be completed in November 2018.
