Bicycles are going to the be exclusive star attraction of a festival being held on Sunday, 15 April, along Passeig de Lluís Companys.
This Sunday, 15 April, marks the 2018 edition of the Bicycle Festival, a civic and participatory day open to everyone, where bikes will once again be the exclusive central attraction. The event will include a Communal Bike Ride and a party with activities to suit all ages at Passeig Lluís Companys, at the Arc de Triomf.
This year’s festival is taking place in April, as it’s bicycle month: 19 April is World Bicycle Day and the whole month will be seeing “30 days of iBCN cycling”, an initiative for promoting the use of bicycles as a regular means of transport.
Open to people of all ages, the event is an initiative to promote the use of bicycles as a regular means of transport and thereby ensure a healthier and more sustainable mobility that helps to improve the quality of our environment and reclaim public space for the city’s residents. Another of its main goals is to provide the public with information on the rules and regulations for cycling in the city, to promote a safe range traffic where various forms of transport can coexist in harmony.
Also taking place on the 15 April is the Bicicletada, a communal 12km bike ride open to everyone that signals the start of the bicycle festival at 10 am.
The festival, which will be held along Passeig de Lluís Companys, will feature an associations fair and an activities programme and workshop open to everyone. Planned activities include several children’s circuits, a space for trying out bicycles, cargobike races, a circuit with adapted bicycles, a workshop for painting with bikes, a mechanics competition and travelling bicycle magic and acrobatics performances.
You can check out all the planned activities on the City Council’s Bicycle website.
